Tarpon Energy Services is taking steps to support driver safety, improve fuel efficiency and better manage their fleet with the recent installation of Safefreight's GPS vehicle tracking technology - SmartFleet™.

Edmonton, AB (PRWEB) September 18, 2007 -- Tarpon Energy Services is taking steps to support driver safety with the recent installation of Safefreight's GPS fleet tracking technology - SmartFleet™. Tarpon can now monitor speed and other factors affecting driver safety. In addition to monitoring driver speed, this satellite tracking technology can also dispatch information about vehicle idling - a tactic designed to help Tarpon manage their fleet's fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

We have a fleet of approximately 250+ of trucks, so safety is a big priority for our company
"We have a fleet of approximately 250+ of trucks, so safety is a big priority for our company," said Rick Wickland, a senior vice president with Tarpon. "One of the unique features of SmartFleet was its ability to monitor driver speed on all roads across Alberta. Other technologies we looked at didn't have that capability," added Wickland.

SmartFleet™ provides oilfield GPS to Tarpon so that they have complete visibility and situational awareness of their vehicles in the field that allows them to monitor asset security and location data 24/7. If a violation has taken place, or if there is an exception to their pre-determined business rules, Tarpon is alerted right away. As well, other functionality such as real time tracking of assets in the field, maintenance alerts and scheduling were key features that lead Tarpon to choose SmartFleet.

"SmartFleet™ diagnostic interfaces also monitor maintenance indicators such as engine hours and mileage. Threshold data are communicated to desktops at Tarpon so that they can take immediate action to avoid potential maintenance issues and failures," said Curtis Serna, CEO of Safefreight.

SmartFleet™ fleet management software also provides Tarpon with fleet productivity reports that summarize important asset specific information including:

  • Working Hours Summary
  • Stop/Go Activity Report
  • Idle Time Summary
  • Alarms
  • Trip Summary
  • Trip Details
  • Vehicle History
