Consumers concerned about climate change look for new outdoor lighting.
Burlington, Vt. (PRWEB) November 15, 2007 -- As people think about decorating with lights for the holiday season, many are concerned about their energy use and what impact holiday lights will have on their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint. The concerns about energy use are well-founded; according to recent data, the generation of electric power is responsible for 39% of carbon emissions that contribute to global climate change.(1) Holiday lights may be a small portion of a household's overall energy use, but there are ways to use outdoor lights and be energy-efficient.

Gardener's Supply is offering several new designs of string lights in a variety of colors that use LED technology. These new lights use 80% less energy than standard mini lights. are 25% brighter and are cool to the touch. The new LED lights use as little as 2 to 4 watts per strand and can last for 200,000 hours. The new lights also emit a much warmer glow than previous models.
The LED string lights are available in varied styles and sizes - Forever Lights, Super Bright String Lights and Retro LED String Lights. The Forever Lights are flame-shaped, while the Super Bright String Lights are more traditional mini-lights. Both are available in warm white or multi-colored. The Retro lights are the old-fashioned bulb design and are only available in multi-colored.
For a wreath or doorway, Battery-Operated String Lights are a great way to make a statement without worrying about an extension cord. Each 6 ½" string has 20 unbreakable lights and is suitable for indoor use, or in protected outdoor areas such as a porch or covered entryway.
The Solar Star Lights change from red to green to blue, and the Northern Lights Spheres glow in a cycle of seven shifting colors. Both put on an ever-changing show of colors all evening. The Star Lights come with two interchangeable finials for different seasons - a hummingbird and a lily.
The Solar Cattail Lights feature a soft amber light that glows through the crackle-finish glass of these graceful steel ornaments.
The Winter Solar Finial uses a warm white LED inside clear glass finials, making them sparkle like miniature ice sculptures. The set includes one stake and three interchangable decorative finials, a snowman, angel and a tree.
