Product architecture provides rapid support to new operating system versions
However, Third Brigade Deep Security has been architected to protect multiple platforms, and primarily uses deep packet inspection to protect vulnerabilities. Ottawa, ON and Reston, VA (PRWeb) December 12, 2006 -- Third Brigade (www.thirdbrigade.com), a security software company that specializes in host-based intrusion prevention systems, announced that Third Brigade Deep Security supports the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.

Microsoft Windows Vista is the latest operating system version from Microsoft and will be followed in 2007 with Microsoft Windows Server “Longhorn”. Significant security enhancements have been added to Windows Vista and complement the protection provided by Third Brigade Deep Security. Windows Vista and Windows Server “Longhorn” 64-bit versions include PatchGuard, a kernel protection mechanism that is problematic for some security vendor implementations (see Gartner research note G00144225, “Microsoft’s Windows PatchGuard Changes Will Take Years”). PatchGuard has no impact on Third Brigade Deep Security, which uses published APIs as the method to provide additional protection for Microsoft platforms.

“Some host intrusion prevention vendors have platform compatibility issues with the kernel hooking approach they use,” said Brian O’Higgins of Third Brigade. “However, Third Brigade Deep Security has been architected to protect multiple platforms, and primarily uses deep packet inspection to protect vulnerabilities. This allows us to quickly support new operating system versions, and ensures that our host intrusion prevention system is not a barrier to customer deployments of new platform versions.”

Third Brigade Deep Security provides protection for a broad set of platforms, including Windows, Linux and Solaris operating systems, as well as the applications that run on them. Third Brigade Deep Security supports Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit) today, and support for 64-bit versions of Microsoft platforms will be available in early 2007.

Third Brigade’s host intrusion prevention system uses deep packet inspection to detect and prevent known and zero-day attacks. And by combining a software firewall with host-based intrusion detection and prevention, it dramatically reduces false positives and negatives.

About Third Brigade
Third Brigade specializes in providing host intrusion defense systems to organizations that need to detect and prevent attacks that exploit vulnerabilities in mission critical systems. Third Brigade Deep Security allows businesses to apply comprehensive security profiles to hosts that protect against known and zero-day attacks using deep packet inspection. It helps ensure compliance and the 24-7 availability of critical systems, provides a virtual patch for software vulnerabilities, and allows organizations to deliver Internet-based services with greater security and confidence. Unlike other host intrusion detection and prevention systems, Third Brigade Deep Security provides broader, faster and simpler protection. Third Brigade. That’s control.
