Southern Utah, Central California layouts attract attention of publications.

Scottsdale, Ariz. (Vocus) December 22, 2008 -- Two new golf courses created by award-winning architect John Fought have been honored for their playability and design by separate publications.

  • GOLF Magazine named Sand Hollow Resort's Championship Course in Hurricane, Utah, as one of the "Top 10 New Public Courses You Can Play" for 2008.
  • Fought's Ridge Creek Dinuba Golf Club in California has been selected by Golf Inc. as the runner-up in the magazine's annual "Development of the Year" contest (USA Division).
According to GOLF Magazine, "John Fought has taken southwest Utah by storm with this superb layout." It further notes the course's back nine is "a home run, with a four-hole stretch (holes 12 to 15) that's among the most memorable in the West."

A former All-American golfer at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, Fought says the Sand Hollow site "is like very few others in the world - it is the most natural site for golf built in many years."

is like very few others in the world - it is the most natural site for golf built in many years.
At an elevation of 3,248 feet, the Championship Course shows off stunning views of red-rock cliff formations, while the 7,319-yard layout follows the land's natural contours, integrating ridgelines, canyons and elevation variations that are challenging and entertaining throughout. Located near St. George and 25 minutes from Zion National Park, the course is part of the Sand Hollow Golf Club, where Fought also has designed an accompanying nine-hole course, the St. Andrews Nine.

Ridge Creek Dinuba Golf Club, 30 miles south of Fresno in California's Central Valley, is the area's first 18-hole championship course. The par-72 course features the longest par-5 hole in California - the 15th, aptly named "Tragedy," measuring 653 yards. The course takes advantage of the scenic Central Valley mountain ranges, wildlife and native vegetation, while incorporating native grasses and bunkers reminiscent of the classic heathland courses of England.

The January issues of GOLF Magazine and Golf Inc. will formally announce the respective honors.
