Health Care Innovators Promote Consumer Choice As Key To Reform

Roundtable Assesses Market Opportunities

Greenwich, CT (Vocus) March 17, 2008-- As the call for health care reform intensifies, policymakers should look to grassroots innovators for guidance. There's plenty to learn, in particular, from those developing new incentives to promote consumer responsibility.

And while many officials are laying their bets on blanket Internet-driven solutions, even basic systems such as electronic prescribing face huge obstacles. Instead, some innovators are pursuing solutions that often involve hands-on approaches.

This was another terrific experience for us
On Wednesday, March 12th, Lyceum Associates hosted a discussion group that considered different approaches, and also, more broadly, market opportunities in consumer choice. This event followed in the entrepreneurs' workshop series, and featured presentations by leading innovators.

The roundtable met at the Union League Club in New York City, and included senior executives from the following businesses: CBS Corporation, CVS Caremark Corporation and its MinuteClinic subsidiary, Hospitals Without Borders, Inspire, Medi-K Corporation, Milliman, Pfizer Inc. and RedBrick Health.

"This was another terrific experience for us," commented David Greene, president of Inspire, a vanguard in online health communities. "The Lyceum community is a trusted source of valuable information and industry contacts, and an important contributor to our business development."

Participants considered a range of market-relevant topics, including provider-patient dynamics, consumer wellness initiatives, quality of care, cost-benefit solutions for employers, real-time claims adjudication and health care reform.

"We covered many issues that were important not only to the health care debate, but also our corporate strategy," added Abir Sen, chief strategy officer at RedBrick Health, the leading consumer-owned health company. "I found the different perspectives particularly useful."

Mr. Sen and Mr. Greene, in addition to executives from MinuteClinic and Medi-K Corporation, each presented his company as part of the day-long roundtable. Participants contributed opinions on concept and strategy, and tied these into the day's core topics.

"For us, it was a worthwhile opportunity to interact with potential business partners, who also happen to be exceptional thought-leaders," noted Laurent Amouyal, president of Medi-K Corporation, a top international provider of real-time claims adjudication just now entering the US market. "I look forward to continuing the discussion in future events."
