There are approximately 2 billion cell phone users worldwide, and 197 million users in the US alone and due to short battery life of current cell phone models, a whole new profitable and massive product market is now open for the taking.
(PRWEB) February 25, 2007 -- Cell phone usage has been soaring for the past 15 years. In the 2001 Transportation Statistics Annual Report distributed by the Bureau of Transportation it was reported that by 2001 nearly 120 million Americans subscribed to a cell / mobile phone service. This was a dramatic increase since ten years prior in 1991 when the cell phone subscription statistic was 7.6 million. Even since 2001 the number has dramatically risen.
The number of cell phone subscribers in the United States reached approximately 159 million in 2003, up from 34 million in 1995, according to the latest edition of the national data book released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.
In 1994, 16 million Americans subscribed to cellular phone services. Current statistics indicate that two billion people currently have subscriptions for cellular phones, referred to in Europe as "mobiles," enough phones for one third of the planet's population. In fact, there are some countries with more cell phones than people. In the United States, 66% of the population owns a cell phone: U.S. population stands at 297 million, with 197 million cell phone users. Collectively, people spent 675 billion minutes talking on cell phones in June 2005. In regards to youth, currently in the United States over 45% of teens own a cell phone and 33% have used a cell phone to send a text message while parents are even providing their young children with mobile phones for safety reasons if they need to be contacted or for emergencies.
Several Census reports also stated that a major & common complaint with cell phone users was that battery life was short lived and phone conversations are continuously interrupted by power failure at inconvenient times, especially when a cell phone user cannot carry their phone charger with them everywhere they go. It is estimated that approximately 65% are professional and business cell phone users that experience this inconvenience on a daily basis. Major cell phone manufacturers are constantly striving to improve battery life, but with common challenges in keeping cellular devices small and compact while at the same time improving the battery life of the cellular phone. Smartcell, an emergency cell phone battery provider estimates at least 20% to 25% growth patterns are quite the norm.
With so many cell phone users and the challenge to override inconvenient call drop outs due to lack of battery life leaves a whole new market wide open. There are batteries for ipods, MP3 players and portable radios, but until just recently there has been nothing of a sort to provide cellular phone users with a solution to inconvenient power shortages. Now there are a number of solutions including compact lithium batteries no larger than the dimensions of a credit card which can be plugged into a cell phone at the sign of a dead battery, enabling the caller to continue conversations without any interruption to the conversation, sometimes enabling them an extra 8 hrs worth of battery power to their cellular phone.
