New online education program offered through NCU’s School of Education focusing on online teaching and learning to prepare professional educators for instructing students through the Internet.

Prescott, AZ (PRWEB) July 27, 2006 -- Northcentral University (NCU) (http://www.ncu.edu/elt_details.asp), among the nation’s top accredited online universities, today announced a graduate level specialization aimed squarely at the fastest growing segment of modern education -- online learning. The title of the new online education program specialization is E-Learning and Teaching Online (ELT). Dr. Sue LeBeau, NCU Associate Professor of Education, developed the online teaching and learning courses for the specialization and will serve as lead faculty for the ELT specialization.

E-Learning and Teaching Online (http://www.ncu.edu/elt_details.asp) comprises 10 separate online education program courses offered through NCU’s School of Education. As one of the nation’s leading accredited online universities, Northcentral University has created each course in the online education program to address educational needs that are highly specific to the processes of teaching and learning via the Internet. The specialization requires six online education program courses for graduate degree purposes, and provides options allowing learners to select courses relevant to their professional settings.

Online teaching and learning are increasingly important components of education. Virtually all universities and colleges offer some form of “e-learning.” Of the accredited online universities, Northcentral University is the only one to offer 100 percent online education, even for doctoral degree programs. “E-Learning is definitely here to stay,” LeBeau says. “It may take different formats as the technology evolves, but it will only grow and expand to offer more and more to learners.”

Kathryn Hollywood, Ph.D., NCU Chair of the School of Education, responded to numerous learner requests for the creation of the E-Learning and Teaching Online specialization.

"I recommended to Dr. LeBeau that we listen to our Learners and provide them a rigorous and demanding course of study in this area,” Hollywood said. “We believe that our ELT specialization will prepare professional educators and trainers to meet the challenges of cyberspace education."

Local school districts now use the Internet to communicate everything from school lunch menus to snow day advisories. And secondary, even primary, schools have begun providing online classes and/or programs that supplement the classroom experience. Whether primary or post-graduate, students -- and their educators -- are learning to use the extraordinary information resources offered by the World Wide Web. The scope of e-learning and online teaching and learning courses will be defined by the quality of experiences provided to the online instructors. “One great advantage of e-learning,” LeBeau adds, “is that it can be customized to meet the individual needs of Learners. At NCU, we take pride in offering such customization.”

The new instructional paradigms of education will require innovative and highly specific skills and teaching strategies. The excellent online educator must develop curricula and manage courses, and mentor learners, in ways unique to the online education model. Slated among the top accredited online universities, Northcentral University’s new E-Learning and Teaching Online (ELT) specialization is designed precisely to meet these instructional needs. As the field of e-learning continues to expand, NCU is committed to aligning its academic offerings to keep its learners ahead of the curve.
