SupportRailTransit.com offers means to remove names
Shall an ordinance be adopted to prohibit trains and rail transit in the City and County of Honolulu

Honolulu (Vocus/PRWeb) June 27, 2008 -- For Oahu residents who feel they were misled into signing the anti-rail petition and wish they could take it back, Support Rail Transit is offering the means to do so on its website, SupportRailTransit.com.

The site provides a form and offers instructions on submitting it to the City Clerk's office for those wishing to remove their names from the anti-rail petition. This gives a second chance to residents suffering signer's remorse because they were misled by inaccurate anti-rail arguments.

Support Rail Transit objects to the anti-rail petition drive to put a question on November election ballots that completely prohibits the use of rail transit in any mass transit system within the City and County of Honolulu. The proposed question, "Shall an ordinance be adopted to prohibit trains and rail transit in the City and County of Honolulu," takes options away from the people of Oahu rather than empowering them.

Support Rail Transit -- a recently formed non-profit organization consisting of Hawaii organizations and individuals who believe rail transit is an essential element in a sustainable Oahu -- has launched a website to provide a place where residents can separate facts from anti-rail myths. The website provides information about Oahu's light rail alternative, corrects misinformation disseminated by anti-rail protestors, and offers ways for rail supporters to become more active in getting a light rail system in place on Oahu.

SupportRailTransit.com will be continuously maintained and updated to provide the latest information and news on the rail transit issue. The website focuses on data identifying rail transit as the only viable option to effectively address Oahu's transportation issues, strengthen the island's economy and protect the environment. Visitors are encouraged to explore the site, get the facts about rail transit, enjoy the television and radio spots being aired by Support Rail Transit, link to other websites, and sign up for e-mail alerts.

Support Rail Transit is a private, Hawai'i-based 501(c)(4) non-profit organization that does not receive government funding.
