Vacationers to the Orlando area are generally unaware of the wonderful value and opportunities a vacation home offers," said Steve Trover, president of Discover Vacation Homes. By uniting together and forming an association to promote the vacation home industry as a whole, we can create awareness of the industry, the benefits offered by our members properties and the overall perks of staying at a vacation home versus a hotel."

While vacation homes are commonplace in other areas of the country, such as Myrtle Beach, many consumers are unaware of their existence in the Orlando market. In fact, Orlando offers more than 700 vacation rental companies and approximately 20,000 vacation rental units, with Discover Vacation Homes members representing nearly 13 percent of that market. Comprised of Central Floridas leading vacation home companies, Discover Vacation Homes aims to increase awareness of the industry, as well as set high levels of expectations for guests staying at member vacation homes.

Perfect for large, extended and multi-generational families, as well as multiple families traveling together, Discover Vacation Homes member properties range from 1,050 to more than 4,000 square feet, which is approximately five to ten times larger than the typical 300-square-foot hotel room. Because vacation rentals are actual houses, town homes or condos, visitors are able to experience all the benefits of home, including fully furnished rooms, full kitchens and washers/dryers.

In addition, all homes also have private pools and may also feature hot tubs, barbecue pits, game rooms, plasma TVs, DVD players, wireless Internet, PlayStation and X-box game systems and more.

One of the biggest perks of staying in a vacation home is that whole families are able to stay in one house instead of being divvied up," Trover said. As a result, many families plan longer vacations and bring more people with them. Plus, whole extended families are able to stay in one house instead of being divvied up into individual hotel rooms that may or may not be located near each other. As a result, many families plan longer vacations and turn the experience into a family reunion of sorts."

According to Trover, the average number of nights per vacation home reservation is 6.4, as compared to the normal four-night stay at a typical hotel. This comes as no surprise as many Discover Vacation Homes member companies offer guests great perks, such as online reservations with 360-degree tours of units available for rent, the option to view each companies entire rental inventory, repeat guest and referral incentive programs, discounts and tickets for local attractions, car rental and other services, as well as concierge-type services.

Each of the founding vacation home companies brings something unique and beneficial to the association as a whole," Trover said. We look forward to growing the council and encouraging other companies to join our efforts to proactively market our industry as the alternative vacation option."
