PNC Financial Services Group chosen for the fifth time among the nation's "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" due in part to a culture that supports working parents, an adoption-assistance program and support seminars for parents of teens.

(PRWEB) September 25, 2006 -- A culture that supports working parents, an adoption-assistance program and support seminars for parents of teens were among the reasons that The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC) was chosen for the fifth time among the nation’s "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers."

This highly competitive, prestigious award is presented annually by Working Mother Magazine as a benchmark for work/life and family friendly practices in corporate America. On the award’s 21st anniversary, the magazine focused on the importance of benefits for new parents and a culture that supports working parents at all stages of their child’s life. PNC was one of about 15 companies to be highlighted in the magazine for its seminars geared toward parents of teenagers. The seminars are designed with input from employees and are offered as teleconferences or webinars, broadcast to all PNC locations. Previous topics have included 'How to Talk to your Teen,' 'Helping Teens find Summer Employment,' and 'Is My ‘Tween Growing up too Fast?'

At PNC, we recognize the many conflicting demands on working parents from the time their children are infants through the teenage years and beyond
“PNC is exceptional for its continuing commitment to working mothers, and we salute them for making the 100 Best for the fifth time,” said Carol Evans, chief executive officer of Working Mother Media. “Every year we see companies upping the ante, establishing new paradigms for quality of life among their employees and redefining the status quo for workplaces across the country. Among the many worthy entrants, the winners really set the gold standard.”

Working Mother also recognized PNC for a culture that supports working parents, including its many flexible work arrangements, networking opportunities for women, nursing mothers’ facilities and programs like eldercare counseling.

“At PNC, we recognize the many conflicting demands on working parents from the time their children are infants through the teenage years and beyond,” said Kathy D’Appolonia, senior vice president and manager of employee inclusion at PNC. “Our vision is to ensure that all employees have the resources to meet their personal and professional needs.

This is the second national award PNC has received this year for its employee programs. In August, WorldWIT, a global networking organization for women, recognized PNC with the Rumina Award for support of nursing mothers in the large-company category.

Methodology: To apply for the Working Mother 100 Best, PNC provided Working Mother magazine with detailed information on seven areas of work/life balance including workforce profile, compensation, child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-friendly programs and company culture. PNC completed a 500+-question application, the most rigorous of its kind, which checked the availability, tracking and usage of programs to support working mothers, the accountability of managers to implement programs and the successful advancement of women into top paying jobs, board position and management ranks. PNC was also required to submit benefits handbooks and supporting documentation.

The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (www.pnc.com) is one of the nation’s largest diversified financial services organizations providing retail and business banking; specialized services for corporations and government entities, including corporate banking, real estate finance and asset-based lending; wealth management; asset management and global fund services.
