Supreme Protein's Dan Uggla Caps Off a Breakout Season with a Historic Home Run

Download this press release as an Adobe PDF document.

Dan Uggla, a high-profile member of Supreme Protein®'s "Team Supreme," ended his season with a bang by slugging his 32nd and last home run of 2008 to dash the New York Mets' playoff hopes in the season's final game. The HR will go down in history as the last hit in the Mets' long-time home Shea Stadium. Now Uggla prepares for a momentous off-season that may see him depart the budget-conscious Florida Marlins in a blockbuster trade.

Manasquan, NJ (Vocus) October 7, 2008 -- If Dan Uggla has hit his last home run as a Florida Marlin, he certainly made the last round-tripper one to remember. Uggla's blast, his 32nd of the season, sealed the Mets' fate, eliminating them from the National League playoffs on the last day of the season. It was also the last home run hit in the Mets' home for 44 years, Shea Stadium.

For Uggla, the game-winning homer represented a bittersweet moment, even as it capped off a season that saw him emerge as one of the National League's elite hitters. The slugging second baseman, who also logged 92 RBIs and 97 runs scored on the season, was a key player on a closeknit team that posted a 84-77 record despite having by far the lowest payroll in Major League Baseball. Now this team of scrappy overachievers may be scattered during the off-season, as salary arbitration looms for several key players, including Uggla.

Uggla will be regarded as the Marlins' most valuable trade bait over the winter, and he will be the subject of several offers from teams that believe themselves to be one superstar short of a World Series bid in 2009. Here's one thing that prospective new teams can be sure of in Uggla. He will certainly maintain the extensive training regimen and precision-targeted dietary program that have made him one of the strongest and most feared power hitters in the National League.

Supreme Protein® bars allow me to get the protein and nutrients that I need so that I can recover from my workouts faster and exercise longer before feeling signs of fatigue
As part of his efforts to sustain maximum muscle repair and growth over the course of a very long baseball season, Uggla makes a point of eating clean, forgoing excess carbs, and consuming plenty of Supreme Protein® bars, his protein source of choice for building muscle.

"Supreme Protein® bars allow me to get the protein and nutrients that I need so that I can recover from my workouts faster and exercise longer before feeling signs of fatigue," Dan says. "I've definitely noticed a difference since I've added Supreme Protein® bars to my routine." As a result, he believes that even higher achievements await him in the next few seasons.

"I've never felt stronger, sharper, or had more stamina," the slugger says. "No matter what next season brings, I know I'm going to be playing at a high level." Whether those future exploits will be recorded in the Marlins' aqua-and-black, or another team's colors, remains to be seen.

For now, however, as the 2008 regular season draws to a close, Uggla finds himself linked in history with another high-profile National League slugger from baseball's past. Revered Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Willie Stargell was the first to hit a home run at Shea Stadium in 1964. And now current All Star and Supreme Protein® spokesperson Dan Uggla will go down as the last.
