AccuRev Inc. today announced that Alaska Airlines, one of the largest
U.S. airlines and the dominant west coast air carrier, has standardized
on AccuRev® for
process-centric software
configuration management (SCM). Known for embracing innovative
technology to improve the customer experience, Alaska Airlines chose
AccuRev to be at the center of its best-of-breed application lifecycle
management (ALM) strategy.
Chris Barnes, Senior Project Manager, Alaska Airlines commented, “We
have estimated a cost savings of well over $100,000 for just two of our
twelve development teams that will be standardizing on AccuRev through
the end of 2006 to enhance development collaboration. Our eCommerce team
alone must manage more than 26 projects at once and the merging and
parallel development capabilities of AccuRev are ideal for this level of
complexity.”
Six of these twelve teams are already in production with AccuRev
including the eCommerce Web site (alaskaair.com), all Flight Operations
including dispatching, and the Alaska Airlines frequent flyer Mileage
Plan. In total, over 400 applications will be managed by AccuRev,
providing a secure, centralized repository to increase audit-ability,
artifact traceability and reproducibility. Ease of use has also allowed
development teams that typically don’t store
their code in a centralized repository to begin using the
AccuRev process-centric SCM solution.
Productivity improvements within QA and testing groups are already
evident by providing these teams with a consistent, automated standard
process with increased visibility into what code streams are being
tested. Teams no longer have to spend valuable time merging code changes
or testing and fixing build problems, vastly increasing productivity and
quality.
AccuRev was selected after an exhaustive evaluation of all the leading
SCM vendors for its ability to visually represent and model Alaska
Airlines’ development process and manage
multiple software releases in parallel in a more efficient manner than
its previous file-based SCM tool. AccuRev will be used by Alaska Airlines’
developers, business analysts, quality assurance (QA) engineers, and
production services staff within its Microsoft .NET environment. In
addition, Unix developers managing Siebel and PeopleSoft are using
AccuRev to store and manage change to their scripts.
