Green IT Datacenter Leader Develops Innovative Datacenter Systems for a Leading National Financial Services Firm and a Nationwide Media and Communications Provider

Farmingdale, NY (PRWEB) March 31, 2008 -- How do you build an environmentally-responsible datacenter to meet the rigorous standards for reducing an organization's carbon footprint? How do you support large datacenter facilities in a small space? These were among the challenges facing AFCO Systems as it was selected by two organizations for separate datacenter projects. The first, a leading national financial services firm, selected AFCO for a new datacenter construction project. The second, a large, nationwide media and communications provider, selected AFCO to help with its recent datacenter expansion project. Both organizations turned to AFCO Systems, a global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced enclosure technology for mission-critical datacenter environments, for their expertise in building custom datacenter enclosures and cable management systems.

We recognize that companies in industries as demanding as financial services, and media and communications require quick turnaround of precision engineering. Nothing can happen in a datacenter build-out until the cabinets are installed, and we take that responsibility seriously.
For its financial services customer, AFCO Systems not only met the design challenge of creating a thin, strong rack and cable management system for the firm's high-density datacenter environment, but AFCO's unique, reusable packaging was subsequently adopted as a requirement for all large equipment deliveries.

Due to the dimensions and space considerations of its datacenter, the financial services customer required a manufacturer that could engineer a nonstandard width rack and enclosure for its equipment. AFCO Systems engineers were able to quickly produce a prototype not before seen in the industry -- one that does not exceed 20 inches in width, four inches slimmer than the industry standard.

By using its patented Sidecar technology, designed to maximize the usable space within an enclosure, AFCO was able to move the financial services firm's communication and power cables (including patch panels) outside of the cabinet frame, resulting in an increase of usable enclosure space of up to 33 percent.

To date, AFCO Systems has delivered over 800 of the uniquely designed cabinets to the customer.

The second customer had unique cabling requirements. The low ceiling height of its datacenter meant that AFCO Systems engineers needed to build a custom computer rack, cable management system and datacenter enclosure.

The tight relationship between AFCO engineers and the company's cable design team enabled them to quickly generate multiple iterations of technical specifications and create a prototype rack within one week for testing. Ultimately, AFCO began delivery of over 100 racks on site four weeks later -- all on spec and well within the tight time schedule required.

"AFCO Systems is pleased to partner with leading companies in multiple industries for their crucial datacenter power and cooling projects," said AFCO Systems CEO Michael Mallia. "We recognize that companies in industries as demanding as financial services, and media and communications require quick turnaround of precision engineering. Nothing can happen in a datacenter build-out until the cabinets are installed, and we take that responsibility seriously."
