RugSale.com Introduces Shopping With A Friend Feature.
Rich Internet Applications That Build Brands

Holyoke, MA (PRWEB) April 15, 2008 -- Online area rugs retailer, RugSale.com, has added a new feature which allows customers to shop with a friend from separate computers. RugSale has partnered with a technology company who developed an application that allows two people shopping at RugSale to see what the other person is looking at. Though most customers like to chat on the phone while they shop together, for people who are on dial-up connections or just prefer it, there is also a chat feature in the shared shopping area.

Many in the ecommerce community see social shopping as the next step in the evolution of web 2.0 social trends. This was explored in a Forrester Research article called "Rich Internet Applications That Build Brands". As the article says "…Rugsale enables collaborative shopping and decision making that isn't possible with plain vanilla HTML." Paul Nangle, Director of Marketing put it this way. "We see the importance of the interaction and validation, the social aspects of shopping provide, everyday in our brick and mortar stores."

The process is fairly straightforward. When a customer wants to get a friends advice they click on the Shop Together button, enter their names and share a code. This activates a tool bar with a set of boxes that shows each person what the other is looking at and provides a box where they can drag and drop their favorite items. They can then discuss, on the phone or on the chat feature, the merits of the rugs they are looking at as they browse the site. RugSale has been working closely with DecisionStep Inc. to implement and improve the Shop Together feature to ensure customers ability to shop for rugs with friends. Charlie Kaoud, RugSale CEO, explains "When people shop in our brick and mortar store they almost invariably bring someone with them; a friend, husband, their mom, a decorator. They want to have someone they trust help them decide. I always knew that somehow we needed to allow them to do this in our online store also, now we finally have that technology."
