Philadelphia, PA (PRWeb) June 2, 2008 -- Drexel University Online, a pioneer in distance education, has increased its degree offerings with the addition of three new concentrations within the Master's in Library and Information Science program: Competitive Intelligence and Knowledge Management, School Library Media, and Youth Services. These innovative online concentrations will increase the educational opportunities for library and information professionals.

Through the Competitive Intelligence and Knowledge Management concentration students will focus on information needs and knowledge management in special library, corporate, and other organizational settings.    For those who wish to work in K-12 school library programs in both public and private schools, the School Library Media concentration is available and the Youth Services concentration are for those who are planning to lead a career within the public libraries and focus on youth populations.

We're very proud to offer our students the outstanding Drexel curriculum within this convenient online format
According to the U.S. Department of Labor and Statistics, many schools, colleges, and universities prefer to hire those with a graduate degree in library science, and note that the higher level of education primes candidates for higher level job positions. The job market for those with an advanced Library and Information Science degree is strong because of the high rate of job growth and the number of librarians who are predicted to retire in upcoming years.

Drexel University Online's master's in library and information science has long been highly regarded in the industry due to its high rankings and accreditation. In its "America's Best Graduate Schools 2007," U.S.News & World Report ranked the online degree in library & information science at Drexel University 11th in the nation overall, while its concentrations in Information Systems and Digital Librarianship came in at numbers 5 and 6, respectively. U.S.News & World Report also ranks Drexel University as having one of the 10 largest online graduate library science programs in the country.

"We're very proud to offer our students the outstanding Drexel curriculum within this convenient online format," said Dr. Kenneth Hartman, academic director at Drexel University Online. "All of our online programs -- including the Master's in Library and Information Science -- are taught by the same renowned faculty as our campus courses."

Applications for Drexel's online Master's in Library and Information Science are now being accepted for the fall term. For more information about this online program, visit Drexel's online degree website, e-mail info@drexel.com or call (877) 215-0009.
