Culinate launches a website about the intersections of food and community, featuring articles, recipes, news items and commentary about healthy eating and food-related political, health, and environmental trends.

Portland, OR (PRWEB) January 15, 2007 -- Americans aren’t just asking, “What’s for dinner?” anymore. They also want to know where their food comes from and how it is produced. In a world where things to eat are abundant but not always healthful, people have many questions about healthy eating - what they’re eating, why they’re eating it and how they can eat closer to their ideal.

So while Culinate features recipes, articles and books about cooking, we don’t limit ourselves to the kitchen
The new website Culinate (www.culinate.com) tackles these concerns and more.

Launched in January 2007, Culinate addresses the multitude of intersections between food and the rest of our lives. We make decisions about food every day: what to eat, where to buy it, how to prepare it. But there’s much more to what people eat than simple daily sustenance or good health.

Food is fundamental. We make decisions about it constantly: what to eat, where to buy it, how to prepare it. What does it mean to put fork to plate? How should we feed ourselves and our children? Culinate is a place for those who care, or want to care, about these questions. Healthy eating isn’t only about feeding your body but also about feeding your mind.

“So while Culinate features recipes, articles and books about cooking, we don’t limit ourselves to the kitchen,” said editorial director Kim Carlson. “We feature articles and essays that address the multitude of intersections between food and the rest of our lives. We’re interested in how people define their lives via what they eat — 'Should I buy organic? Be a vegetarian? Shun sugar?' — as well as food defines us as people. Culinate is a place that connects food to the wider world and brings it home.”

Culinate’s authors and cooks explore questions about topics such as sustainability, community, healthy eating and the environment. Website essayists chew on what the things they eat mean to them, while columnists offer sometimes humorous takes on living and eating, and interviewees explain current issues in food.

Culinate’s content is always straightforward and thoughtful, and Culinate’s focus is steady: greater understanding of the many roles food plays in our lives. With the mission to help you “Eat to Your Ideal,” Culinate centers itself at the intersection of good living and smart, healthier choices.
