HealthIsMyGoal.com Announces Access to Personal Health Records in Flash - Flash Drive, That Is

HealthIsMyGoal.com announces its dynamic health empowerment tool on a USB flash drive. My Medical Journal is a step-by-step guide which explains how to partner in your health care, help expedite your own diagnosis, and save time and money. It doubles as a personal health record keeping tool chock full of fill-in charts and tables.

Columbia, MD (PRWEB) May 18, 2007 -- HealthIsMyGoal.com (http://HealthIsMyGoal.com) is a dynamic new Web site full of valuable resources to make getting and staying healthy seamless. Developed by a board-certified physician, this unique site empowers people to make healthier choices by providing them with the tools and tips they need.

One such tool is My Medical Journal on USB flash drive. The goals of My Medical Journal are twofold. First, it teaches how to communicate with physicians and other health care professionals in a way that will optimize medical care by explaining how to truly partner in one's health care. Topics such as how to prepare for a doctor's visit in advance, how to think through your symptoms before you even see the doctor, and how to explain your problem in a concise, yet pertinent manner are important 'patient skills' that are elucidated.

"When a physician has a good handle on his patient's problem early on he is far less likely to order a battery of expensive, potentially dangerous tests for his patient. Many tests ultimately prove be unnecessary in the final analysis anyway. Unfortunately, the general public has never been adequately taught how to communicate with physicians on a level that could help them actually help their doctors make the correct diagnosis faster and cheaper," says Dr. Maria Hester, developer of My Medical Journal.

My Medical Journal also doubles as a device on which to store personal health records. There are fill in charts and instructions on how to develop and maintain a pertinent, user-friendly copy of vital health records. There is even a special folder in which to store scanned documents, such as EKGs, lab results, and X-ray reports. By putting My Medical Journal on a tiny USB flash drive, people can keep a copy of personal health records with them at all times.

"Having access to important health records can be life-saving in an emergency. Why leave it up to chance that your doctor will be on call for that 3 am phone call from the emergency room physician? If he does happen to be on call, it is extremely unlikely that he will remember your old test results or a detailed list of your medical problems and medications. Ultimately, the ER physician will be forced to err on the side of caution and order whatever tests and treatments he deems necessary based on the limited information at his disposal," Dr. Hester goes on to say.

Health Records at a Glance is a free downloadable form for recording important health information, such as chronic medical conditions, medications, allergies, and much more. People are encouraged to fill out this form and carry it in their wallets at all times.

HealthIsMyGoal.com also offers free, interactive physician-led teleseminars to teach people valuable patient skills that could one day be life-saving. Free health-promoting e-cards are another unique feature of this site. By sending a subtle, sometimes funny e-card to a friend or loved one the general public can provide a much needed community service - getting the word out about the power we all over our own health. In this era of skyrocketing health care costs and dwindling access to affordable medical care, the power of prevention cannot be overstated.
There are also links to resources on smoking cessation, exercise, nutrition, and weight loss.
