'The Safe Driver Initiative®' program will provide additional eyes for the trucking industry and help bring driver safety awareness to a new level in 2007. Program will help monitor and reduce the number of tractor trailer accidents and the resulting human, environmental and public safety concerns.

Mt. Arlington, NJ (PRWeb) January 10, 2007 -- HMHTTC Response, Inc. (www.4hazmat.com), the nation's leading dedicated hazmat emergency response company, today announced a new program to help monitor and reduce the number of tractor trailer accidents and the resulting human, environmental and public safety concerns.

HMHTTC is offering the "Safe Driver Initiative®" (SDI) at no cost to all trucking companies. Companies may enroll in the program by calling HMHTTC's safety department at 1-800-927-9337.

HMHTTC places high standards on safety, ethics and professionalism
As part of the SDI initiative, all HMHTTC emergency response managers -- who are highly trained in safety protocol and log more than two million miles annually in their emergency response vehicles -- will notify HMHTTC's safety department of any observed unsafe driving activities by tractor trailer drivers. Once notified, HMHTTC will make a courtesy call to the trucking company's safety department, making them aware of the incident, including the vehicle unit number, location and time of day.

"HMHTTC places high standards on safety, ethics and professionalism," said HMHTTC CEO Scott Turner. "With the number of response managers we have on the road nationwide, we felt anything we can do to help improve safety records and reduce the number of roadway diesel spills, hazmat spills and injuries would only benefit everyone in the trucking industry and the general public."

"The SDI program is a great opportunity for companies to take advantage of another set of trained eyes as we all try to improve the safety of our roadways," said John Conley, President of the National Tank Truck Carriers.

Unsafe driving costs companies millions of dollars each year and may also result in:

1. Fatalities
2. Vehicle damage
3. Environmental liabilities including diesel and hazmat spills
4. Excess wear on tires and increased vehicle maintenance

Twenty-six companies have enrolled so far, and Turner said the initial response has been positive. "They have been quick to thank us for going the extra mile to help them and the industry," he said.
