CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and MOSCOW (Business Wire EON) November 5, 2007 --
Bit9, Inc., the leading provider of application control and device
control solutions, and Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure
content management solutions, today announced a strategic worldwide
technology partnership. Under the agreement, Kaspersky Lab plans to
integrate Bit9’s award-winning, patent-pending
whitelisting technology into future Kaspersky product offerings.
Specifically, Kaspersky Lab will leverage the Bit9 Knowledgebase, the
largest collection of actionable intelligence about the world’s
software, including commercial applications, open-source software,
drivers, libraries, and malware, currently comprising more than 4
billion files and growing by up to 50 million records a day. This
software identification service helps users understand what
applications, good and potentially malicious, are on their desktops,
laptops, and servers.
As the most comprehensive catalog of software found in Windows, UNIX,
and Linux packages as well as malware and other unwanted software, the
Bit9 Knowledgebase provides essential trust-related information,
including:
-
original name and size of the file
-
publisher that created the file
-
products in which the file appears
-
all sources of data
-
threat level of the file
Kaspersky Lab provides complete protection against viruses, spyware,
crimeware, Trojans, worms, spam, hacker attacks, and most other types of
malware, at every point of potential exposure on the network. The company’s
business security software products can be easily customized to fit even
the most challenging and dynamic network environments.
“We are thrilled to add Kaspersky Lab to our
rapidly growing partner program,” said Doug
Cahill, Vice President of Business Development, Bit9. “As
one of the industry’s security software
providers most respected for its technology leadership, Kaspersky Lab
will be able to enhance their threat protection products with Bit9’s
innovative and flexible whitelisting technology. Kaspersky Lab’s
customers will gain a whole new level of understanding of what software
is on their enterprise desktops, and whether or not it should be trusted.”
“We are very pleased to partner with Bit9,
whose extensive software catalog complements Kaspersky Lab’s
own protection technologies for more comprehensive and multi-faceted
data security,” said Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of
Kaspersky Lab. “Kaspersky Lab plans to
combine Bit9’s innovative whitelisting
technology into some of the future product offerings to provide users
with more granular threat protection.”
Cahill noted that a number of other companies are also leveraging Bit9
technology in their solutions, including Norman, Guidance Software, and
additional industry-leading vendors yet to be announced. “The
unique and flexible nature of Bit9 technology is such that it can be
used for a variety of means, including threat research, whitelisting,
software inventory and software asset management, forensics, and PC
Utilities, among others,” Cahill said. “We
continue to garner tremendous interest from vendors, which is a
testament to Bit9’s innovative approach to
securing enterprise endpoints.”
