America Spa Magazine recently published the winners of its annual "Professional's Choice Awards" in their December 2006 issue. More than 1,000 readers, including top decision makers at spas around the country, voted on their favorites naming Blue Water Spa as their first choice in the medical spa category. Blue Water Spa, was recently named the Best Medical Spa in America in American Spa Magazine's 2006 "Professional's Choice Awards".
"It is an incredible honor to accept this prestigious award from American Spa Magazine, a publication well respected by medical and spa professionals," says Kile Law, co-owner and president of Blue Water Spa. "We all feel so proud seeing the Blue Water Spa recognized alongside world class spas." Other winners include Canyon Ranch Spa, Ritz Carlton Spas, Miraval, Mi Amo and The Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea.
When asked about the future of medical spas, Law answers, "This is an industry that is growing at an explosive rate, and I see no signs of it slowing down any time soon. We will continually see more innovations in medical aesthetic technology, with a trend towards procedures and services with little to no 'down time'. I am very enthusiastic about the future of this industry."
Law also voices concerns, however. "There have been tragedies in med-spas owned and operated by non-physicians. Some facilities have a revolving door for so-called 'medical directors' who do not own or operate the business. Other facilities offer medical services without any medical oversight whatsoever." Law believes that, unfortunately, some medical spas offer treatments that are ineffective, and that some treatments and technologies are even potentially dangerous. She would like to see more stringent legislation as the industry grows in addition to better information for consumers considering med-spa treatments.
"I would like to do what I can to help both consumers and physicians," says Law. "I strongly believe that patient satisfaction and physician success go hand in hand.' Law is in the process of developing a business model for physicians who would like to own an operate a medical spa. She will be conducting seminars and webinars in 2007 for physicians interested in owning and operating a medical spa. She will be speaking at several medical spa conferences in early 2007 including speaking on two panels at the IECSC Medical Spa Conference New York March 2007.
