Relationships are a meaningful part of our lives, and at some point in time, we've all had ups and downs. As a couples counselor that has saved his own marriage with counseling, Jay Slupesky, LMFT, believes that any relationship can be salvaged if both parties are willing to work for it.

(PRWEB) November 19, 2008 -- After studying with the world's best-known marriage researcher, working with more than 200 couples, and maintaining a 30-year strong marriage, it is no wonder that Jay Slupesky, founder of East Bay Couples, is passionate about what he does. Jay believes that counseling saved his own marriage, and this is the number one contributing factor to his career change. Once an engineer in the high-tech world, Jay is now dedicated to saving the relationships of couples from all walks of life.

Jay has worked with married couples, dating couples, young couples, older couples, straight couples, gay couples, and people from many different walks of life. According to him, "A marital crisis frequently has a silver lining." It gets the couple into therapy and uncovers the underlying problems in the relationship, which can then be addressed. In fact, the problems each couple struggles with before therapy, can become a strength to build on in their future.

A marital crisis frequently has a silver lining.
Aside from his first-hand experience in the field, Jay has also studied with the world renowned John Gottman, whose research has contributed greatly to the success of marital and couples counseling. Gottman is best known for his accuracy in predicting the potential success of relationships, and has been featured in books like Blink and on television shows link The Human Face.

In a recent interview, Jay shared the five most common reasons that couples seek counseling. One of which is communication problems, which every couple experiences from time to time, but many cannot get beyond without help. Other reasons on the list include blended family issues, affairs, pornography addiction, and stage-of-life-crisis, all of which are difficult problems for couples to contend with. Given the wide scope of issues that Jay has seen couples face over the years, it goes without saying that his experience has grown along with his "toolbox" for helping couples tackle challenges.
