The NPR channel will enable Facebook users to access the latest episodes of the top NPR radio shows.
Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!

Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) August 6, 2007 -- NPR launched a branded media channel on Facebook today allowing the Facebook community to place the media organization's podcasts on their profile pages using a customized service developed by Portland, Oregon based SplashCast.

The NPR Podcast Player will offer many of its most-downloaded titles including "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!", "Fresh Air", "All Songs Considered" and more. The application will be available in the Facebook directory.

NPR has been a leader in digital media, incorporating new technology to offer a wide-ranging slate of its news, information, talk, entertainment, music and arts content on all platforms. NPR is the most successful media company in podcasting, having started with 17 titles in August 2005 and now offering 80. More information is available at www.NPR.org.

SplashCast was one of a select number of companies invited to develop for the Facebook platform, which launched May 24. Since that point, SplashCast has started developing custom applications for clients that leverage the company's media platform already built into Facebook. Applications have been launched for Zomba Label Group (owned by Sony BMG), popular video podcast Rocketboom, Raw Vegas TV, and Rep. George Miller (D-CA), the first elected official to launch a Facebook application. Facebook users can easily add any of these media channels to their profile page and share with their friends. According to a recent study from comScore Media Metrix, Facebook has grown 89 percent since it opened its application platform.

The SplashCast web-based media syndication service permits anyone to create their own online TV programs that may mix audio, images, video or text. SplashCast is one of the first to integrate RSS into its player technology. NPR will use the SplashCast RSS functionality to keep their Facebook channel updated, essentially making select podcasts available and automatically updated across the Facebook community.

"NPR podcasts are a perfect use of the SplashCast Facebook application," said Mike Berkley, chief executive officer for SplashCast. "Over time, we expect SplashCast channels will serve as the premiere way for media companies, politicians, and celebrities to establish their own brands and present their own content on one of the world's fastest growing online communities."
