The main objective of the project is to bring immense cost benefits for emerging entrepreneurs.
The project will focus on regions where Enterprise Software such as Accounting & Financial, Inventory and Warehouse, ERP, CRM, Supply Chain Management (SCM) are yet to be adopted widely and therefore targets Asia, Africa, South America and any region from where it receives support.
The project, currently hosted at SourceForge.net, the nerve center for Open Source projects, is valued over $4 mn as per US standards, according to a thumb rule estimate by Ohloh.net an independent accredited reviewer of Open Source Projects.
"We are proud to be a major contributor to Enterprise Open Source from Asian region," said Rajesh H Acharya, the co-founder of Samooha. "We are not as excited about the contributions in dollar value terms as much we are thrilled about the possibilities in the market place of an emerging world that is seeing tectonic shift towards Asia," he added.
The project at SourceForge.net has around 40 members from different countries and utilizes most promising open technologies such as Java, Swings, JXTA, Hibernate, JPF (Java Plugin Framework), Derby along with many others at the moment and will be open to any complimenting open and platform independent technology from the IT community that could further the innovation aspects of the offering to make it truly efficient from an end user's view point.
The project also aids in enhancing the quality and commitment of developers from Asian region to allocate some innovation time for finding an alternative to achieve inter-enterprise connectivity without having to be affected by the limitations of the enterprise software of past millennium which was shaped before the internet era with lesser interoperability standards.
Samooha-S has been downloaded over 4 thousand times by users worldwide and has been receiving mixed response from the users, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and academies from Asia and other developing countries.
Samooha-S project is reaching out to major trade associations and government programs that are focused on SME empowerment in India, China and most Asian as well as African nations. The driving force for this initiative have been the Singaporean and Malaysian SMEs.
