One horse. One rider. One new "old" sport.
SAN ANTONIO (BusinessWire EON) March 15, 2007 --
One horse. One rider. One new “old”
sport.
The American Polocrosse Association is ready for the challenge of World
Cup competition. Top polocrosse players from Texas, Colorado, Maryland,
North Carolina, Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and
Washington will compete for the best in the world title when they leave
for Australia on April 11, 2007.
Polocrosse is a combination of Polo and Lacrosse and got its start in
the 1930s as a training exercise for horses and riders. Friendly
competitions to test skills in action soon developed into a brand new
sport. Polocrosse incorporates equality in the rules –
each player uses only one horse in the game making the sport accessible
for more people.
"We are thrilled to be competing for the second time in Australia. We
have a solid team competing against seven other countries to capture the
title,” said Nick Cheesman, president of
American Polocrosse Association.
“It honors us greatly that half of the team
for the World Cup in Australia are members of the United States Pony
Club, “ said Margo Leithead, USPC. “We
wish the team the best of luck.”
Officials from American Polocrosse Association (APA) (www.americanpolocrosse.org)
have announced the players and support staff who will represent the USA
at the Ridley Polocrosse World Cup (www.polocrosse.com.au/worldcup).

“It’s an exciting
sport for anyone familiar with Polo and Lacrosse,”
adds Edmund Schenecker, manager of the USA World Cup team. “Polocrosse
is the fastest-growing one-horse sport in the country and we will do our
best to win the World Cup competition.”
The American Polocrosse Association was created in 1984 to facilitate
the organization of Polocrosse clubs across the country. The game is now
played from coast to coast with 32 active clubs.
