A Night of Stars and Elegance
I was continually surprised that these parents were standing up against their own churches, the public school system, state officials, and, many times, their own families.

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) June 12, 2007 -- Held in the elegant and historical Hall of State at Fair Park, the night of June 15, 2007, will bring to light the historical significance of Texans standing up for their rights. Over 75 parents were dragged before judges as they upheld their right to direct the education of their children; their story told in the documentary is compelling and heart wrenching.

"I thought this was an important story to tell. These parents were sacrificing daily for their children's best interests amidst a great deal of hostility," stated Laurel Wilson, an independent filmmaker from Dallas. "I was continually surprised that these parents were standing up against their own churches, the public school system, state officials, and, many times, their own families."

While the battle for Texas parental rights did not include the taking of children in the night, as has been witnessed these last few months in Germany, there were battles none-the-less. Parents in the early years of the movement gave up much for the privilege to direct the education of their children.

Many of the pioneers of the documentary will be attending the premiere, including Attorney Shelby Sharpe (lead attorney in the defining home school case in Texas), Judge Dave Haigler (federal administrative law judge in the Dallas region), Mary Maddoux (wife of late radio personality Marlin Maddox), and Barbara and Steve Short (first home school family to win in JP court in the 1980s).

The Premiere will be held on June 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hall of State at Fair Park. Tickets can be purchased from the Texas Home School Coalition by calling 888-200-4903.
