Marylhurst University Adds Certificate to Online Real Estate Program

Marylhurst University is now offering an online Real Estate Studies certificate. The certificate is comprised of five courses (25 credit hours) that are a part of the university's online Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Studies program. The certificate option opens to students in the fourth quarter of 2007 and will be open in every enrollment period hereafter.

Marylhurst, OR (PRWEB) November 13, 2007 -- Marylhurst University is now offering an online Real Estate Studies certificate. The certificate is comprised of five courses (25 credit hours) that are a part of the university's online Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Studies program. The certificate option opens to students in the fourth quarter of 2007 and will be open in every enrollment period hereafter.

This certificate program is specifically designed to meet the needs of professionals who work in or who have an interest in the real estate industry
"This certificate program is specifically designed to meet the needs of professionals who work in or who have an interest in the real estate industry," said Paul Aragon, associate professor of Marylhurst's Center for Professional Real Estate Studies. "The certificate is open to individuals who have already earned a bachelor's or master's degree in a business or non-business related field.

"In addition, those who have yet to earn a college degree will find this condensed real estate education program an excellent way to gain intensive, college-level training in the field," Aragon added.

Students completing the certificate program will have developed professional competencies in the areas of general real estate principles; real estate valuation, finance and investment; property management; and real estate sales. In addition, students completing the certificate program will be able to:

1.   Demonstrate an understanding of basic economics, technical business applications and regulatory/industry trends and practices in real estate.
2.   Implement effective communications skills necessary to apply modern industry terms and their definitions that are essential to all real estate disciplines.
3.   Understand the impact of market trends on real estate.
4.   Understand basic real estate financial markets and financing methods.
5.   Develop a working knowledge of regulatory and professional requirements related to real estate financing.

The five-course certificate in Real Estate Studies is comprised of:

RES 400: Real Estate as a Profession
This is a survey course that will examine the real markets, their dimensions and structure, marketing analysis and financing methods.
RES 405: Leveraging Real Estate I
This course is an introduction to real estate financing methods and covers mortgage instruments and alternative methods of financing, such as deeds of trust and land sale contracts.
RES 410: Leveraging Real Estate II
This is an advanced course in real estate finance theory and practice.
RES 415: The Laws and Regulations Governing Real Estate
This course will cover the issues of property ownership, sale, financing (including foreclosure), and limitations on ownership imposed by contract and governmental regulation.
RES 425: The Deal: An Analysis of a Real Estate Transaction
This course offers a hands-on approach to all the phases of a real estate transaction.
