San Diego prepares to welcome a new generation of style and sophistication to the historic Gaslamp Quarter with the opening of The Witherby, a 7,400 square foot event loft space that combines timeless tradition and elegance with a fresh, modern perspective.

San Diego, Calif. (PRWEB) October 13, 2006 -- San Diego prepares to welcome a new generation of style and sophistication to the historic Gaslamp Quarter with the opening of The Witherby, a 7,400 square foot event loft space that combines timeless tradition and elegance with a fresh, modern perspective.

Located in the historic I.O.O.F. building on the corner of Sixth and Market and above the popular Side Bar, The Witherby is the latest offering from EnDev, LLC – an entertainment and real estate development company comprised of partners James Brennan, Demien Farrell and Mitch Compton, three key players in San Diego’s burgeoning nightlife scene. After tremendous success with leading nightlife and restaurant destinations Side Bar and Stingaree, as well as future restaurant/lounge projects in Pacific Beach and Hillcrest in the works, New York natives Brennan and Farrell are thrilled to open their first event-only space, catering to the discerning host whose options were limited to ballrooms and banquet halls—until now.

I’ve always wanted to open a space like The Witherby – a throwback to the days of pomp and circumstance when luxury was the standard in entertaining—no matter what the occasion
“I’ve always wanted to open a space like The Witherby – a throwback to the days of pomp and circumstance when luxury was the standard in entertaining—no matter what the occasion,” says Brennan. “I remember visiting The Plaza in New York for my senior prom and love the idea of combining that kind of architectural elegance with something urban and new.”

The venue is named after Oliver S. Witherby, San Diego’s first lawyer and State District Judge and known fondly as the ”Father of San Diego Jurisprudence.” The 1882 Classic Revival style I.O.O.F building was built as a joint effort between the Masonics and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.), a secret fraternal benefit society in which Judge Witherby served honorably until his death in 1896. The ornate features of the original structure are still in tact and include vaulted 18-foot ceilings, arched floor to ceiling windows, original exposed brick and exquisite crown molding.

Brennan and Farrell have hired interior designer Davis Krummins, who also designed the modern inspired interiors of Stingaree and SideBar, to revive the loft space from its current bare walls to the swanky decadence of years past. Krummins will preserve the original design and craftsmanship while adding unexpected modern design twists around every corner.

The difference is in the details.

Designed to accommodate everything from high-end corporate events and seminars, to Bah mitzvahs and wedding celebrations, The Witherby’s decor will remain neutral to allow hosts the opportunity to customize each event in their own style and taste. Designer Krummins will create the stylish backdrop by using a color palette of muted espresso, cream, dark browns, platinum and gold tones mixed with textured platinum wallpaper and rich leather-like, black maple paneling.

Krummins has also commissioned seventy year-old Los Angeles Italian designer, Barry Tanner who specializes in custom Italian marble mirrors made popular in the 40’s and 50’s, to create several pieces to pair with the unique, slick wallpaper and radiant cut crystal chandeliers.

Guests will enter The Witherby via the Market street entrance and will immediately be welcomed by a beautifully restored hardwood stair case with vibrant artwork adorning the walls. At the top of the stairs will be a glass enclosed coat check. The primary event space will include a main bar and several rooms that configure into a variety of seating plans including banquet, reception, classroom, station and theatre-style and can comfortably accommodate up to 600 guests.

The Witherby also provides hosts with an array of design and event planning options developed to ease the stresses of planning and procuring. The experienced event staff will aid hosts in transforming the unique space into their perfect affair. Customizable elements include the menu, décor, lighting, entertainment and overall theme for the event. The Witherby offers a preferred catering list of offsite vendors or hosts have the option of bringing in their own caterer– a distinctive element that helps further separate The Witherby from other conventional spaces. Additional planning features include: state-of-the-art audio visual equipment, valet parking and an interactive website with personalized online invitation features. At The Witherby, no two events will ever be the same!
