Double Fisted! Phan Takes Bracelet #2 on Day 26 of PokerListings.com's Live Series Coverage

It took about five years - and the agony of several near-misses - before poker pro John "Razor" Phan scored his first World Series of Poker* gold bracelet last week. It then took him seven days to pocket his second. Coming off a dominant performance on Day 19 of PokerListings.com's live 2008 Series coverage, Phan was again in rare form on Day 26, running over the final table in Event 40, $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball, and turning himself into the story of the Series so far with a second bracelet.
I've been here so many times, so many final tables, but I've never played as well as I did in the last week. If I had played this well in the past my overall results would be a lot different.

Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles (PRWEB) June 26, 2008 -- It took about five years - and the agony of several near-misses - before poker pro John "Razor" Phan scored his first World Series of Poker* gold bracelet last week.

And again, in typical Razor fashion, it was more than a little unpredictable, more than a little booze-soaked and a pure crowd-pleaser.

Among the highlights: Phan suggesting after it got down to four-handed play they make it winner-take-all to "make it interesting, something for history," and capping things off when the final hand was over by ordering a round of 20 Coronas for everyone there.

Not quite history-making - Jeff Madsen and Mark Seif both won bracelets six days apart in previous years - Phan said it was still a pretty big deal in his post-win interview:

"Going into the World Series I didn't expect to win a bracelet so winning one was really nice. I've come second so many times so I'm used to that. The first one was nice but winning the second one was so hard it's way bigger.

"I like to do things that not everyone has done so getting Player of the Year and winning two bracelets is more important (than just winning one).

"I've been here so many times, so many final tables, but I've never played as well as I did in the last week. If I had played this well in the past my overall results would be a lot different."

Phan also said the $151,896 payout will make a big difference in his grandmother's village in Vietnam, as he intends to donate another huge portion of his winnings:

"Yeah, I donate a lot of my money to charity and to my family. I give like 30 or 40% of all my winnings to my family and to the unfortunate people there. I support over 120 of my cousins and family, making sure they have food, a decent house, clothes.

"The more I win the more I can donate. There's so many poor people and I really like that feeling of giving back."

Playing second fiddle to Phan on Day 26 was the other bracelet winner of the day, 42-year-old retired software developer Frank Gary, who outlasted the field in Event 41, $1,500 Mixed Hold'em, for a $219,508 payday.

A post-win interview with Gary - and interviews with all bracelet winners so far this year - can be found in the PokerListings.com player interview section.
